Watching Your Spending Habits: Electricity and Water Bills

This is another article on the act of saving money. As I wrote this article, I realized it is not all on the matter of watching our spending habits when we speak of electric bills and water bills. But here are points on saving money by watching our consumption practices as well.

Saving On Your Electricity and Water Bills

(1) Buying Energy Star-rated appliances and making sure your home is well-insulated and energy efficient are the best ways to save money on day-to-day electrical costs.

(2) Turning off your computer or unplugging the TV or coffeemaker when you're away from them, you'll save a good bit of energy over the course of the year. The computer workstation you're using right now might be connected by a power strip. If so, turn that baby off when you're done for the night, and unplug anything else you're not using. Keeping your computer's energy settings on "power saver" is another way to keep from wasting energy.

(3)Switch off your heater, air-conditioner and lights in rooms you're not using them.

(4) Keep your curtains or blinds drawn at night or noon especially during summers, to keep the heat from coming in.

(5) Use a door snake under the door. This will lock the air-conditioning temperature inside the room.

(6)Consider this...if it's not much of a bother, that is.

(7) Use energy efficient light bulbs.

(8) Have 2 minute showers.

(9) Use grey water from your washing machine or shower to water your plants or even to flush the toilet manually.

(10) Install a water efficient shower head.

(11) Wash clothes with cold water.

It is a choice of mindful actions, actually.  Some are easy, some are not. But it does a lot in our pocket in the long run.

Bear into mind the reason you're saving in the first place: TO BUILD A CACHE OF MONEY.

Honestly, I am not quite an expert yet; but I am determined to use what I have known to work, stronger into the habit.

Let's journey together. Tell me how things are going with watching your spending and consumption habits.
